Al Shirawi organizes Pink Day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is observed worldwide as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To educate its employees on the occasion and to do its bit for the cause, Al Shirawi organized Pink Day in its Ras Al Khor facility recently.
An awareness program was arranged where Dr. Pranay Taori, a veteran in the field of Medical Oncology from Zulekha Hospital, Dubai was invited to share his knowledge and information about breast cancer, its causes, symptoms, prevention, diagnosed outcomes of negligence and treatment options available. The employees were encouraged to participate in the program and raise their concerns directly to the medical expert. Navin Valrani, CEO of the Al Shirawi Engineering Services Group (ESG) and Zakir Malik, Corporate Manager – Human Resources for the ESG were also present on the occasion.
To mark its support for the cause, the company encouraged everyone to wear pink on the day of the occasion and donate AED 5/- by buying a piece of pink ribbons each. The collected funds were sent to support the cause.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual campaign run worldwide to raise awareness about the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the necessary steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Dedicating a month in a year towards the cause is a small yet effective way to move gradually towards progress.
